Canada is to become only the second country to have a legal nationwide cannabis market after a landmark government bill was passed by the senate.

The Cannabis Act sailed through by a vote of 52 to 29 on Tuesday, allowing for the drug to become available for recreational use as soon as the cabinet decides on a final date.

It is expected to be decided upon by mid-September, meaning retail sales could begin before the end of the year.

Until now, only Uruguay had made the cultivation, distribution and consumption of marijuana legal, with the government there having sought to wrest the business from criminals.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is hoping legalising the drug will have a similarly positive impact in Canada, where marijuana can already be used for medicinal purposes.

"It's been too easy for our kids to get marijuana - and for criminals to reap the profits," he said on Twitter.

"Today, we change that. Our plan to legalise and regulate marijuana just passed the Senate. #PromiseKept."

Mr Trudeau had hoped to make cannabis available at retail by 1 July, but provincial and territorial governments need eight to 12 weeks from senate passage to prepare.

Tezaab director N Chandra may not have approved of Jacqueline Fernandez's redone version of the song Ek Do Teen but Tezaab actor Anil

Kapoor appears to have really loved it. He reviewed the revamped Ek Do Teen, which has been recreated as a special addition for

Baaghi 2 and said it takes a considerable amount of difficulty to match up to the high standards set by Madhuri Dixit (who danced in

the original Ek Do Teen) but Jacqueline has indeed done a great job. "What a momentous task it was to follow in Madhuri Dixit's

footsteps, and Jacqueline has done it exceptionally! It takes a lot of courage and conviction to attempt to recreate an iconic song

that so many people have loved for so long! #EkDoTeen," Mr Kapoor tweeted.

Earlier this week, as Ek Do Teen continued to top the trends' list, there was considerable amount of backlash on Twitter and a

sizeable amount of criticism from N Chandra, who directed the 1988 film Tezaab - Ek Do Teen originally belongs to the movie, which

famously starred Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. "I can't believe they've done this to Ek Do Teen. It's crass beyond imagination," the

director told IANS earlier.

Not just Anil Kapoor but Salman Khan, who has co-starred with Jacqueline in Kick, also defended his colleague in a tweet of support

on Wednesday. "Loved the song, Jackie has done full justice to the legendary moves of Saroj Khan. Difficult to match Madhuri," read a

part of his tweet. Salman also made a reference to Varun Dhawan's Judwaa 2, which is a recycled version of his own 1997 movie Judwaa.

N Chandra appeared to have taken particular offense to Madhuri being replaced by Jacqueline in the remixed version. This is what he

told IANS: "Jacqueline Fernandez doing Madhuri Dixit's number? Give me a break! It's like turning the Central Park into a botanical

garden. Madhuri danced with such grace and innocence." N Chandra, who said that remixing old iconic songs is "creative vandalism" and

that there should be "strict laws" against it, was also reportedly joined by Saroj Khan in the anti-Ek Do Teen remix campaign.

Jacqueline Fernandez has been choreographed by Ganesh Acharya, who was one of the background dancers in the original Ek Do Teen.

As per reports in Times Of India, the latest update stated that forensic pathologists found nothing suspicious about the manner in which Sridevi died. The report stated that according to an independent journalist working in the Gulf, “since the death occurred outside a hospital, even though it was a natural death, police have to be informed and they will investigate the death after they first register a case. In case a body has to be sent overseas for cremation, there are, naturally, even more, official steps to be taken,” said the journalist Vasudeva Rao. The death certificate will be issued in Arabic. Go East, expatriates looking to make the big bucks.

Mumbai, India's financial, commercial and entertainment capital, tops global rankings for expat salaries, according to a survey conducted by HSBC Bank International Ltd.

Foreigners moving to the subcontinent's most populous city reported average annual earnings of $217,165. That's more than double the global expat average of $99,903, the HSBC Expat survey shows.
HSBC survey showed expat salary in Mumbai is more than double the global average of $99,903

Other Asian cities joining Mumbai in the top 10 expat salary rankings were Shanghai, Jakarta and Hong Kong.

While expats in Asia were generally well compensated financially, all -- including Mumbai, the mega-city home to more than 18 million people -- ranked lower in expat job opportunities than U.K. and U.S. destinations such as London, San Francisco, New York, or even Birmingham, according to HSBC.

"The financial and technology hubs of the U.S. and U.K. are the most attractive for ambitious expats eager to push their career to the next level," said Dean Blackburn, who heads HSBC Expat.
Dublin, a tech center in Europe, also ranked in the top five for expat job opportunities, but was below the global average in expat salaries. Nonetheless, 61 percent of expats in the capital of the Republic of Ireland reported an improved work-life balance.

Switzerland, the nation that has previously topped country rankings for expat salaries, had two cities in the top five. Zurich, home to banks including Credit Suisse Group AG and UBS Group AG and a tech hub for firms including Alphabet Inc., reported the third highest expat salaries, while Geneva, the base for some of the world's biggest commodities traders including Trafigura Group and Mercuria Energy Group, was fifth.

Despite Switzerland's notorious living costs, the country's high salaries and low personal tax rates saw 77 percent of expats in Zurich report that their disposable income had increased since moving. In fact, over half of Zurich expats reported that they are living in a better dwelling than they did at home even with the Swiss city's expensive rental and property markets.

And while Berlin and Prague rank toward the bottom of HSBC's list of 52, the majority of expats in those cities said the cost of living is affordable

President Donald Trump today criticised India for a high import duty on the iconic Harley-Davidson motorcycles and threatened to increase the import tariff on "thousands and thousands" of Indian motorcycles to the US.

During a discussion with members of the Congress on the steel industry, Mr Trump said the recent decision of the Indian government to reduce the tariff from 75 per cent to 50 per cent was not enough and asked that it should be reciprocal, as the US imposes "zero tax" on the import of motorcycles.

"We have so many countries where we made a product, they make a product, they pay a tremendous we pay a tremendous tax to get into their countries motorcycles, Harley Davidson it goes into a certain country. I won't mention the fact that it happens to be India, in this case," the US president said amidst laughter from the audience.

Mr Trump also indirectly referred to the recent conversation he had with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard.

"And a great gentleman called me from India and he said, we have just reduced the tariff on motorcycles, reduced it down to 50 per cent from 75, and even 100 per cent," Mr Trump said, in an apparent reference to his last week's conversation with Prime Minister Modi.

"..If you are Harley Davidson, you have 50 to 75 per cent tax, tariff to get your motorcycle, your product in. And yet they sell thousands and thousands of motorcycles, which a lot of people don t know, from India into the United States. You know what our tax is? Nothing," he told the lawmakers and his Cabinet colleagues.

Mr Trump once again pitched for a "reciprocal tax" on countries that he says "abuse" their trade relationships with the US.

"So I say we should have reciprocal taxes for a case like that. I m not blaming India. I think it s great that they can get away with it. I don t know why people allowed them to get away with it. But there s an example that's very unfair. And I think we should have a reciprocal tax," the US president said.

Mr Trump has floated the idea of a reciprocal tax in the past, promising to slap it on countries, including allies, that take advantage of the United States and its huge market.

"That's called fair trade. It's called free trade. Because ultimately, what's going to happen -- either we'll collect the same that they're collecting, or, probably, what happens is they'll end up not charging a tax and we won't have a tax. And that becomes free trade," Mr Trump said.

Imported motorcycles from high-end brands, including Harley Davidson and Triumph, are set to get cheaper as the government slashed customs duty to 50 per cent.

Earlier, import of motorcycles with engine capacity of 800cc or less used to attract 60 per cent duty, while those with capacity of 800cc or more attracted 75 per cent duty.

COMMENTSThe Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC), through a notification on February 12, has slashed the duty on both these variants of motorcycles imported as completely built units (CBU) to 50 per cent.

Indian industry experts said the import duty rates have been rationalised for these motorcycles as it has been an industry demand for long and such high-end bikes are not manufactured in India currently.
